The most important thing to remember when it comes to badly damaged credit is that there really is no quick fix.
Any company that promises to take you from a terrible credit score to a mortgage worthy credit score overnight is one that you should avoid…like the plague.
Here are some other red flags to look for when you’re choosing a credit repair company.
If a company asks you to pay for their services before they actually do anything for you, watch out. This is illegal.
Credit repair companies are required to describe the steps you can take for free before you hire them for anything. So if they don’t, they’re more concerned with selling you their services than they are with actually repairing credit.
If a company tells you they can fix all the bad information on your credit report, even if it’s accurate and current information, they could only do so by breaking the law. This is something you don’t want to be involved in. It’s YOUR name and YOU will be held legally responsible for any illegal activity.
If a company tells you that you shouldn’t contact the credit reporting agencies directly, beware! Legitimate companies will encourage you to contact the credit reporting agencies yourself.
You should accept the fact that credit reports are a history of your credit activity. To repair your credit, you’re going to have to write some more history, pay what you owe and show the world that you are now a GOOD CREDIT risk!
You can’t change your credit past but you CAN change your credit future.
There are scam artists out there waiting for you. Just remember that there’s no quick fix. Credit history (both good and bad) takes time to create.
