How to Manage Money – a Family Debt

For almost all of my lifetime while I was becoming an adult I heard 4 key words repeated several times: “I have no money!” My mother was a single mother responsible for three rambunctious young children. As you can imagine income was constantly tight and any amount of debt would not help the scenario. There were lots of things I longed-for and wished I should have but my moms issues with debt often made my wishes an unlikely dream. Because I was simply a child, I didn’t comprehend why she didn’t give me everything or why our birthday gifts were made by hand or why we would at times ‘skip’ lunchtime. Needless to say right now I realize what she went through. Unfortunately her circumstance isn’t an unheard of one.The majority of people can use several tips on budgeting.
By the help from some wonderful close friends and a lot of work from me I have begun to educate myself on how to manage money. I have also done my best to show my mother everything I know and she too is finding out and her debt is gradually dissolving. I will not look back at my years as a child with regret because I know she did her best. At the same time, I do not want my kids to have to worry too much about having three square meals a day.
At this moment I’m working four jobs and firmly sticking to a budget. I have used all of the concepts that I’ve read on this web site and it has helped me a good deal. I have also made use of the tips on budgeting offered. I dream of the life I’ll have after this “work-time” is over. The way I view it is if you dream of the way in which you really want to live, work at it until you accomplish it. Goal setting is one of the most important steps you could take in your financial and day to day life. As Edison said: “Imagination is everything, it’s the preview of life’s coming attractions.”
My first big financial decision will be to buy my very first home within 1 year. I plan to rent out a number of of the bedrooms to cover the cost of the mortgage and in a nut-shell Ill be living rent free! The truth is, people will be paying my home loan for me! From there I’ll make investments in various other properties to help to increase my cash flow. I am aware of the many head aches that could possibly be included with being a landlord but it’s a sacrifice and a task that I am prepared to take on. I’m dreaming the dream and taking the steps needed to make it materialize.
In short self-learning in managing money can be priceless and can make a debt free life. My mother didn’t have the tools we have today. I’m confident my childhood would have been significantly different had she known more about finances and was given a few more tips on budgeting. I expect this will motivate you to keep reading and act on your desires, regardless of your past. I will give you with one last quotation from Albert Einstein, “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”
